Why parents compare the two.

Parental controls are the product

Gryphon documents child profiles, schedules, daily limits and requests. Its current pages disagree about the paid tiers, so verify which controls your chosen plan includes.

It replaces your router

AX and Atlas Max include Wi-Fi. Confirm the Guardian model and operating mode before assuming that its controls can be added to your existing Wi-Fi.

Stock and pricing were unsettled when checked

On 2026-10-11 the lineup page showed AX and Guardian sold out and the Atlas Max on pre-order, with Premium Protection quoted at two different monthly prices.

What Gryphon already offers.

These are shared controls where both products support them. The presence of a FamilyAtlas checkbox is not an exclusive addition.

FamilyAtlas cells are Available or Preview from its capability data. Gryphon cells summarise its published documentation; Not listed means we did not find it, not that it is absent.

Existing controls and added family workflows

What FamilyAtlas adds to the family workflow.

This compares two setups; FamilyAtlas does not upgrade Gryphon firmware. Its Android child app works on supported enrolled phones; HomeControl requires a separately paired Brume 2. Device compatibility does not follow from a vendor offering parental controls.

Phone app capabilities and home gateway capabilities have separate platform and release scopes.

Honest tradeoffs

Choose Gryphon if…

  • You want Wi-Fi and parental controls in one box from one vendor.
  • You need rules on the child's phone away from home and are happy to pay for Premium Protection.
  • You prefer a product with years of parental-control firmware behind it.
Where HomeControl fits

Choose FamilyAtlas HomeControl if…

  • You want a gateway at about $80 on Amazon alongside Wi-Fi hardware you already own, after checking the required access-point or bridge mode.
  • You want the phone side (Android screen time, location, extra-time requests) included in the family plan rather than a router add-on.
  • You can wait for FamilyAtlas's home time limits and reports to leave Preview.

Before you change hardware

If you move from Gryphon to HomeControl.

  1. Gryphon rules live in the Gryphon Connect app per profile; write them down before moving.
  2. Before keeping a Gryphon as Wi-Fi behind Brume 2, check that the specific model supports the needed access-point or bridge mode and which controls will remain active.
  3. Check Gryphon's current stock and the Atlas Max authorisation status before buying new hardware.

FamilyAtlas is in early access. Check device support and the HomeControl feature page before you plan a move.

Questions parents ask

Before you decide.

Does Gryphon need a subscription for parental controls?

The vendor documents profiles, schedules and time limits, but its pages do not consistently distinguish included controls from paid tiers. Premium Protection quotes $7.50/month billed annually and $8/month on the same page; Standard Protection is labelled $5/month. Confirm your model and plan in the app.

Is Gryphon AX still sold?

Gryphon's lineup page listed the AX at $299 but marked it sold out on 2026-10-11, alongside re-certified units and the Atlas Max pre-order.

Which keeps my existing Wi-Fi?

Brume 2 uses your existing Wi-Fi router in access-point or bridge mode. AX and Atlas Max include their own Wi-Fi; check the Guardian model and operating mode before treating it as an add-on.
