FamilyAtlas HomeControl vs
CleanRouter (V6 engine)

A dedicated family-filtering router with schedules, site reports and remote controls already included in its advertised service.

Checked October 11, 2026 · Written by FamilyAtlas, a competing product, not an independent review. FamilyAtlas is not publicly available yet; HomeControl statuses come from its published capability data.

At a glance.

FamilyAtlas sells software, not a modem or Wi-Fi router. Its current HomeControl installation is Brume 2 with the FamilyAtlas plug-in, not CleanRouter (V6 engine) firmware.

Why parents compare the two.

Filtering and reports already exist

CleanRouter advertises schedules, Google SafeSearch, content categories, activity logs and emailed reports. FamilyAtlas should not present those as exclusive additions.

An existing phone or a dedicated phone

CleanPhone provides phone controls as a separate device product and does not support bringing your own phone. FamilyAtlas instead enrolls supported existing Android phones with the required supervision access.

A family workflow, with clear limits

FamilyAtlas combines Android phone rules, extra-time requests and separate parent accounts with its own supported home gateway. Its home budgets and reports remain Preview, and it does not install on CleanRouter.

Feature by feature

What CleanRouter (V6 engine) already offers.

These are shared controls where both products support them. The presence of a FamilyAtlas checkbox is not an exclusive addition.

FamilyAtlas cells are Available or Preview from its capability data. CleanRouter (V6 engine) cells summarise its published documentation; Not listed means we did not find it, not that it is absent.

Existing controls and added family workflows

What FamilyAtlas adds to the family workflow.

This compares two setups; FamilyAtlas does not upgrade CleanRouter (V6 engine) firmware. Its Android child app works on supported enrolled phones; HomeControl requires a separately paired Brume 2. Device compatibility does not follow from a vendor offering parental controls.

Phone app capabilities and home gateway capabilities have separate platform and release scopes.

Honest tradeoffs

Choose CleanRouter (V6 engine) if…

  • You want a dedicated Wi-Fi filtering appliance with vendor-advertised site logs and emailed reports.
  • You are comfortable with the subscription quote and, if needed, a separate CleanPhone rather than your existing child phone.
Where HomeControl fits

Choose FamilyAtlas HomeControl if…

  • You want to keep a supported existing Android phone and manage app-use limits, requests and parent accounts in one family workspace.
  • You want supported home rules on a separately paired Brume 2 and can wait for home daily budgets and reports to leave Preview.

Before you change hardware

If you move from CleanRouter (V6 engine) to HomeControl.

  1. Record the current filter exceptions and schedules; confirm the CleanRouter subscription, supplied model and cancellation terms.
  2. Do not install the FamilyAtlas plug-in on CleanRouter. HomeControl requires a supported Brume 2 and verified traffic routing.
  3. Before retaining any existing Wi-Fi hardware, verify its access-point or bridge support. Test the chosen traffic path and avoid conflicting filters.

FamilyAtlas is in early access. Check device support and the HomeControl feature page before you plan a move.

Questions parents ask

Before you decide.

What does CleanRouter already offer?

Its current V6 overview advertises content filtering, Google SafeSearch, time restrictions, remote management, per-device logs and daily or weekly email reports. We have not independently tested its AI filtering claims.

Does CleanRouter also sell phone controls?

Yes. CleanPhone is a separate Android phone product with app management, scheduling and GPS location. Its current FAQ says bring-your-own-device options are not supported; it is not included merely by buying the router.

Can FamilyAtlas be installed on CleanRouter?

No supported installation is documented. FamilyAtlas HomeControl currently needs Brume 2 with its plug-in. The Android child app is separate. Home daily budgets and home reports remain Preview; the comparison does not promise a firmware upgrade for CleanRouter.
