My Child Spent Hundreds on Robux or V-Bucks — What Can I Do?

The money is already spent. Who can handle the refund?

The short answer

Do this first

  1. Prevent another purchase and avoid spending remaining currency.
  2. Save receipts, dates, amounts and the account used.
  3. Identify the payment processor, not just the game.
  4. Open the official refund/support route for that processor.
  5. Contact the payment issuer promptly if ongoing fraud is suspected.

Stop additional purchases, preserve the receipts and identify who processed each payment. Roblox, Epic, Apple, Google Play and console stores do not share one refund process. Explain honestly whether the child made an unapproved purchase or the account/payment method was compromised; those are different cases. Do not promise your child a refund before the merchant decides.

Returning a Fortnite cosmetic for V-Bucks is not refunding the original cash payment. Check eligibility promptly and avoid consuming more items while you investigate. Contact the provider named on the receipt, using its official support route. If there is ongoing fraud, contact the payment issuer as well. A chargeback is not a casual shortcut: disputes can affect game accounts and merchant refunds. Once the incident is contained, review stored payments and the actual store’s approval or PIN settings rather than assuming an in-game parental control covers every checkout.

The parent concern

Money has already left the account. Merchant-specific containment and honest reporting matter before a conversation about future spending rules.

Roblox: follow the payment processor

Roblox asks customers with unauthorized card, PayPal or Google Play charges to contact support before disputing; a dispute prevents its direct refund process. “Xsolla*Roblox” goes to Xsolla. Apple, Microsoft/Xbox, PlayStation and other listed third-party transactions go to that processor. Roblox warns that associated accounts can face closure. Explain the facts; do not call a child’s purchase an outside hack without evidence.

Fortnite/Epic: virtual-currency returns versus cash

Eligible Item Shop purchases can be canceled within 24 hours if unused/unequipped, or returned with an available ticket within 30 days. These return V-Bucks. Some items, including developer-island purchases and passes, are excluded. For cash paid through another store, use that store’s route; Epic cannot refund third-party payments. Check Support and Refunds > Return or cancel purchase for eligible items.

Apple App Store and Google Play

For Apple-processed charges, use reportaproblem.apple.com and Apple’s refund instructions; eligibility is conditional. For Google Play, use its official request flow with the purchasing account and receipt. Roblox’s unauthorized-charge guidance specifically includes Google Play in its support route, so identify the merchant and type of problem rather than filing contradictory duplicate claims.

Xbox and PlayStation

Microsoft’s digital-game refund guidance routes Xbox requests to Xbox support using the purchasing account. PlayStation uses Transaction History > eligible transaction > Request Refund; its consumables policy differs from ordinary games and depends on delivery/use. Do not apply a generic “14-day return” promise to spent currency. Contact the store if the purchase is missing or ineligible in the self-service form.

Nintendo and the next purchase

Nintendo Americas says mistaken downloaded-game/DLC purchases are not refundable under its stated policy. That is not a worldwide ruling on every fraud incident or consumer right: contact regional Nintendo support for the actual charge. Keep case numbers, dates and amounts, protect the account if compromised, and review store payment restrictions before restoring purchases.

What you can do right now

  1. Stop further purchases.
  2. Identify the processor from each receipt.
  3. State whether this was child spending or compromise.
  4. Use the official merchant route promptly.
  5. Ask the issuer about fraud/dispute consequences if needed.

A way to start the conversation

“We need the receipts and an honest explanation first. A refund is the provider’s decision; we will deal with the payment rules after containing the problem.”

A suggested script to adapt, not a clinical intervention.

What technology cannot solve

FamilyAtlas does not process refunds or bank disputes. Eligibility varies by store, purchase type, use, timing and jurisdiction; virtual currency returned to an account is not cash returned to a card.

Questions parents ask

Does a Return Ticket refund my card?

No. An eligible Fortnite item return gives V-Bucks back, not the original cash payment.

Should I immediately charge back everything?

Ask the merchant and issuer about the actual incident. Disputes can affect accounts and direct refund options; do not delay necessary fraud containment.

Can FamilyAtlas get the money back?

No. Use the actual payment processor or issuer’s official process.
