FamilyAtlasDiscord’s Family Center can show selected recent activity after a teen accepts the connection, including contacts and servers. It does not show message contents. Current official documentation also describes selected privacy controls, a spending cap and scheduled downtime, so older descriptions of Family Center as only an activity summary are incomplete.
Start by reviewing the actual servers and direct-message permissions with your child. A small group of classmates and a large public gaming server are different contexts. Ask how moderation works and whether strangers can contact them privately. Discord requires at least age 13, and a higher minimum in some countries; the presence of a school friend is not proof of eligibility. Practice refusing login-code requests, suspicious downloads and unexpected invitations to another platform. If you cannot agree on the intended use and safeguards, pause the decision and revisit it together.

The parent concern
Parents often know a game their child plays but not the server where conversations continue afterward. Activity visibility can help start a discussion; it cannot tell the whole story.
What the parent view does and does not include
Open User Settings > Account > Family Center. The teen can share a QR code or invite link under My Family; the parent requests a connection and the teen accepts. Web setup is supported. Do not rely on older instructions saying both must use mobile.
Linked parents see recent activity, not messages. Controls include selected privacy settings, downtime and a spending cap that excludes subscriptions. A teen can disconnect at any time; the connection also ends when their age group becomes adult.

Inspect the community, not just the app
In User Settings > Content & Social, review Direct messages and friend requests, including server-specific choices. As a separate family check, ask who moderates the intended server and how newcomers are admitted; a settings screen does not answer those questions.
Treat a download, login QR code or request for a security code from a familiar-looking account cautiously. Use the official site for account recovery and payment, and report suspicious contact through the platform.
Agree on a narrow review boundary
Explain what you can see in Family Center and what you cannot. A younger teen may need regular joint reviews of servers and contacts. An older teen should have a voice in how check-ins work. Evidence of coercion calls for a safety response; ordinary privacy does not prove misconduct.
