You want the chosen lesson to remain accessible while setting a boundary around feed scrolling. Decide whether your goal is a feed limit or a small approved library; they use different controls.

Start with YouTube’s parent control
In the parent’s YouTube app, open You > Settings > Family Center, select the linked child, then look under Time Management for the daily Shorts feed limit. YouTube documents a zero-minute option starting in March 2026. Check account eligibility and the options actually displayed.
A self-set limit under your own YouTube time-management settings is a different feature: the viewer can ignore its reminder. Do not use that reminder as evidence that a parent-enforced boundary is active.

Choose a library when that fits the child
In the YouTube Kids app on the child’s device, open Settings, complete the parent check, select the profile and enter the parent account password. Choose EDIT SETTINGS > Approve content yourself, review the introduction and tap Select. Pick videos, channels or collections. This mode must be selected in YouTube Kids.
Search-off mode uses a broader set of verified channels; it is not the same as a handpicked library. Check the profile and any content you previously shared.

Test the path, not just the switch
After changing the setting, try opening the Shorts feed and then a normal long-form video. Repeat after closing and reopening the app. Check what happens when the child changes accounts or uses a browser. Write down which surfaces you tested; do not extend a phone result to casting or a smart TV.
A “no Shorts during homework” boundary can be narrower than “no videos.” Decide which applies before installing additional controls. A habit plan still needs an end point for the long-form lesson.
