Items: your personal location relay

Bring a selected Home Assistant tag report onto your FamilyAtlas Items map, with its real measurement age.

Software for configured deployments, off by default. FamilyAtlas remains in early access. No retail tag model or live source account has been verified for this relay.

One source you choose

An owner-operated GoogleFindMy-HA installation can expose one selected device_tracker through Home Assistant. Alternatively, your relay can read one explicit normalized coordinate report file that you prepare.

A report, with its age

The Items list, details and map use the source measurement time. Refreshing the relay cannot make an old location look new. Network reports never say Live, Nearby or Out of range.

Items for your family

Parents see their family’s items. A child sees only items assigned to them. The tag report is not proof that the person carrying it is there.

How to use it

  1. Ask your FamilyAtlas operator to enable the Personal location relay for your family. This requires a separate owner computer and an existing Home Assistant source or coordinate report; it is not phone pairing.
  2. The owner follows the operator guide to generate private setup files. For Home Assistant, select exactly one tag entity and pin its stable google_device_id. Keep the Home Assistant token on that computer.
  3. In FamilyAtlas, open Family location → Items. Add or open your item and choose Link a tag, then Personal location relay.
  4. Enter the opaque stream ID supplied by the owner setup. Tap Start linking, then enter the persistent connection code. Keep that code private until it is rotated.
  5. Run the local relay after linking. It accepts only source measurements made after the link. Wait for a new source measurement; a poll without a fix adds nothing.
  6. Read Network reported and Last network report with their actual age and accuracy. Awaiting report means no retained report is available. Assign a child as holder if they should see the item.
  7. Unlink the item to stop using that binding. The operator can disable or rotate a relay; the API then hides its old coordinates. This does not change the tag’s external account or pairing.

What this connection does

Only the latest report is kept, with the family’s 7/30-day retention choice. No network-item history, Bluetooth scan/ring, GPS heartbeat, battery or pet safe-area alerts. Direct Apple Find My or Google Find Hub pairing is unsupported. Apple accounts, beacon keys, OpenTagViewer ZIPs, OpenHaystack and FindMyFlipper imports are not implemented. A generic coordinate file is not automatic Apple-network access. Upstream integration availability and delayed/withheld locations can prevent reports.

Keep source credentials on your computer

The server receives only an opaque stream/generation and allowlisted measurement coordinates, time and accuracy through a signed request. Home Assistant credentials and external entity/device IDs stay in private local files. Unknown accuracy is labelled approximate; no invented precise radius. Tracker Safety remains a separate personal, local check without a cloud relay.
